Wingate U17's Thrash Whablow Town
Sunday 10th December
Barking Youth League - U17 Division

The gap between the top and bottom of the Barking Youth League Under 17 Division looked more like a chasm at Hackney Marshes on Sunday afternoon as Wingate Under 17s steamrollered over Whablow Town.

Having scored 17 goals against the same opposition 2 weeks ago in the League Cup, a big score was always likely and with leading scorer Adam Shafron in top form, Wingate didn't disappoint those that braved the elements to watch this game.

Shafron opened the scoring in the 2nd minute and by the time he was substituted with 25 minutes of the game still to play, he had scored 8 goals, taking his total to 19 goals in the last 4 games.

Fellow striker Saul Stern found the net 4 times making this his 3rd hat trick in the last 4 games and John Haik added a second half hat trick. Substitute Jon Toby scored twice, including the goal of the game within a minute of being on the pitch, running on to David Brown's excellent 30 yard pass, he executed an exquisite chip/shot with the outside of his foot from the edge of the area. Adam Silver also scored twice, including a direct free kick.

The other goals came from Daniel Berg and Stuart Taylor whilst David Brown and reserve goalkeeper Richard Levene scored their first goals for Wingate , both from the penalty spot.

Whablow's goalscorers were Martin Kendrick in the first half with Nicky Bianci and Miang Lu both finding the net late in the second half.

Wingate remain top of the league having won all 6 games that they have played, scoring 46 goals and conceding 11. In addition they have scored a further 17 goals in the League Cup.

Catch Wingate If You Can

Sunday 14th January

Barking Youth League U17

by Adam Rynhold

When bottom of the League Whablow Town squared up to top of the table Wingate, Whablow were clearly going to require every bit of good luck that came their way.

Things were looking up for them when an expanding unavailability list claimed goalkeeper Matt Davis, consigning an outfield player to spend the afternoon between the sticks.

But it was not long before the reality of the task that faced them became all too clear to Whablow. The opener came in the 4th minute when Adam Shafron pounced on Saul Stern's through ball, rounded the keeper and tapped the ball into the empty net.

Midfielder Stuart Taylor made it 2-0 after 25 minutes when he headed home Stern's excellent cross at the far post. Seven minutes later Taylor turned provider when his intelligent pass caught the Whablow defence square and striker Jamie Weinrich collected the ball just inside the Whablow half. His pace rendered the chasing defenders impotent and the run was capped by just as impressive a shot which rifled past the keeper at his near post.

Shafron made it 4-0 just before half time when, once again Wingate's neat passing caught Whablow out and Shafron ran 30 yards with the ball before side-footing it past the advancing keeper.

Wingate began the second half brightly, but with Whablow playing with 9 men behind the ball, they found it difficult to make the most of their overwhelming possession. However,a fifth goal was inevitable and the man to oblige was midfielder Adam Lawrence who half-volleyed into the bottom right hand corner on 58 minutes.

With the destination of the points in no doubt, it was time for Wingate to turn on the style. The 63rd minute heralded the goal of the game when defender Craig Sandford met David Brown's cross with a perfect bicycle kick from 10 yards out. Weinrich made it 7-0 in the 81st minute, breaking through the Whablow defence and beating the keeper with a low effort.

Adam Silver added an eighth goal two minutes later with a firmly struck shot from just outside the area and centre half Paul Block scored his first ever goal for Wingate when he ran onto Weinrich's pass in the area.

Wingate's domination of this game was so complete that stand in goalkeeper Daniel Berg, who normally plays in midfield, had only one shot to save in the whole game.

Wingate remain top of the Barking Youth League Under 17 Division with a maximum 24 points from 8 games played so far.

Whablow Town- Davidson, Neville, Kumar, Buttwell, Latchanah, Hoque (sub Lennard 60 mins) Kendrick, Li, Leung, Anwar, Bianchi.

Ainslie Wood v Whablow

WOEFUL WHABLOW MISS
OUT ON GOALS AGAIN

Ainsley Wood (5) 12 Whablow Town (0) 0

Whablow Town once again missed out on the goals as Ainsley Wood used two spells of brilliance to see off a weakened Whablow, who were without the attacking threats of Martin Kendrick and top scorer Neil Bianchi, and without first choice goalkeeper Jamie Steed.
The game started fairly evenly, but there was a massive turning point on 6 minutes when Robert Buttwell (who had missed the first three minutes because he was still getting changed) clumsily challenged an Ainsley Wood midfielder in the penalty area. The challenge looked innocuous enough but referee Tony Bell had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. The penalty was converted and suddenly Ainsley Wood found their rhythm. Four goals in the next fourteen minutes and suddenly the score was 5-0.
Whablow knew they had to change something to stop the flood of goals at their end. Robert Buttwell pushed up to midfield and Edward Lennard was employed as a man-marker on Ainsley Wood striker Linton who had already scored two and looked their most dangerous player. On 35 minutes he appeared to break free and Paul Neville was lucky to escape without a booking when his boot connected with the opposition player's head. The resulting free kick was sent rocketing over the crossbar.
Whablow were starting to put on some pressure of their own by now, with Robert Buttwell being involved in both of their first half chances. Just after the half hour mark he found himself through but almost on the touchline. He cut back inside but still the angle was narrow and in the end his right foot shot went high over the bar. Whablow’s second chance was as near as they got to a goal all game. Lachanah and Sivanesan did well and it was eventually Sivanesan who released Anwar down the left. For once he got his cross in and managed to pick out Jackie Chan. Chan was slow to react but eventually regained control and with the opposition 'keeper rushing out, he attempted a side-footed pass to Robert Buttwell, who was square of him. It appeared for a split-second that Buttwell would be able to strike the ball into an empty net, but out of nowhere an Ainsley Wood defender got a toe to the ball before it could reach the advancing striker.
At half time the score was still 5-0. Whablow had held out for 25 minutes without conceding a goal. Daniel Voss replaced Sivaraja Sivanesan for his debut, but this decision dramatically backfired as Voss failed to get involved in the game.
The second half started well enough for Whablow, and 10 minutes into it the score was still 5-0, but it couldn't last. On 58 minutes stand-in goalkeeper Tim Davidson didn't gather a cross, and an Ainsley Wood striker rose above the Whablow defence to head home. Minutes later Davidson picked up a back pass by Kwan Leung. The resulting free kick was passed across but Lennard blocked the eventual shot at point-blank range. The floodgates looked like they would open again as Ainsley Wood attacked ferociously. They added four more in quick succession including a 30-yard half-volley which lobbed Tim Davidson who was only a couple of yards off his line, with Whablow's only chance being a free kick by Robert Buttwell which went straight at the 'keeper.
At 9-0 Whablow suddenly upped their game. They only had to hold out for 14 minutes to keep the score in single figures. Ainsley Wood were attacking with even more venom though. A snapshot hit the post, and from a corner a header was cleared off the line by Paul Neville and the resulting shot from six yards blocked by the same man. Soon after they had another chance, but the player who was through on goal shot straight at the 'keeper from just eight yards out.
The tenth was always going to come though and in the end it was a defensive error that made it. A good run by the Ainsley left-winger saw him beat three men before having a shot. His shot looked to be going just wide of the far post but Lachanah attempted a clearance, which hit an Ainsley Wood attacker on the knee and bobbled into the gaping goal.
Ainsley added two more at the end thanks to even more slack defending, but it was the lack of attacking threat that cost Whablow throughout the match.
